JUNE UPDATE

The long awaited sunshine has finally arrived after the long winter and the fish have responded accordingly. Some cracking carp have been caught up to 12lb on a variety of tactics which is great to see and shows how they are progressing.

The surface fishing has kicked off and has produced a good stamp of fish into double figures. This is a fantastic (although frustrating) way to catch them and usually produces the better fish. Please remember we only allow our floating pellets to be used not dog food.

The fish spawned at the end of May as you will see in the video below this is a very stressful time for the fish which is why we closed for a few days to give them a chance to recover. We would like to thank the anglers for understanding and working with us during this time.

Now that the spawning is out of the way the fishing should become more predictable and the fish should now start to put on some weight over the next few months bring on the new PBs.

All anglers are reminded that all fish must be unhooked in the cradles provided and a bucket of water is essential to keep the unhooking cradles wet at all times as they can become very hot in the sunshine we have plenty of buckets in the net stores for this purpose.

Looking after the fish is the most important thing and after landing a fish please let it sit in the water for a few minutes while you get everything ready there is no rush to get them unhooked you’re not fishing a match.

All fish must now be unhooked in the mats/cradles provided on both lakes NO FISH to be unhooked over your knee when using a seatbox.

CHARITY COMPETITION AND BBQ

Our charity competition and BBQ will be taking place on Saturday 28th July and all proceeds will be going to Craigavon Area Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Following the sad and tragic loss of one of our members and special friend, Niall O’ Hanlon we have named the charity day in his memory and a Shield in memory of Niall will be presented to the winner on the day which will then be displayed at the fishery.

Niall won the charity event last year with this stunning carp below.

Such a fantastic achievement for Niall on the day beating other many great anglers and this memorial charity event will be held in Niall’s name every year to celebrate and remember the life and great times we all had with our great friend and family member.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite any of Niall’s family and close friends who wish to attend the BBQ in the evening.

(Fishing competition during the day is strictly fishery members only)

Please let us know numbers attending the evening BBQ in advance by emailing,

ivylodgecarpfishery@yahoo.co.uk

Niall’s Father and Uncle Frank O’ Hanlon have also asked us to inform all members that The Months Mind Mass will be held in the Church of St Patrick, Magheralin at 11am with refreshments in the Church Hall afterwards, on Sunday 10th June for anyone who wishes to attend.

We will also have a junior match on Willow pond from 4pm – 5pm so please get your names down for the matches ASAP and let us know what time suits you best.

The BBQ will start at 6.30pm and run until 11pm with music and presentation of prizes and good craic as it is always a good night all friends and family are welcome. There will be a raffle on the night with some great prizes as always.
