A WET END TO THE SUMMER
August and September have been a bit of a typical N.I. summer rain, rain and more rain although it has not been good for us the fishing has been steady and some great results have been reported.
The average stamp of fish is well up and we are now seeing double figure carp daily which proves the fishery is going in the right direction and all the hard work through the winter was worth it. There is a lot more to running a fishery than simply stocking fish I get the same questions all the time why not buy some big fish simple answer is it does not work our climate is so different to the south of England where the fish are Born and reared and most big fish would drop so much weight there is a good chance they would die unless we force fed them crap to maintain their weight (which would eventually have the same outcome as there health would suffer).
It takes time to grow fish and a lot of effort but we are enjoying the challenge and the fish are getting there slowly but healthily as I am sure you will all agree. We have some of the nicest looking and healthiest fish in the country and with a few weeks of the growing season left we expect to see a lot more pbs broke and some big fish on the bank before the onset of autumn and everything starts to slow down.
We are now stocking Kipper Baits boilies which have been producing some cracking fish they are a fresh freezer bait which the carp home in on the main reason for this is the quality ingredients that go into them. I know exactly what goes into these boilies and I have used enough of them to know they are a bait that the carp actually want to eat and they will keep the fish in the swim looking for more.
We have stuck with 1 flavour and size in the boilies 14mm Plumb and they are £5 per half kg bag which is the same price if not cheaper than any other good quality boilies on the market. If you want smaller quantities this can be arranged. I usually have some air drying at all times or if you ring or txt in advance we can leave some out for you if you do not wish to freeze them yourself (or the wife won’t let you lol).
We would like all anglers to remember that we only allow good quality baits from reputable companies NOT B&M bargins or cheap ebay crap.
NO HOMEMADE BOILIES are to be used as freebies or fed you may use them as a hook bait only. We do not want to have to start banning certain baits so please remember to buy good quality bait or buy from us as we keep all our bait fresh and reasonably priced.
As most anglers will be aware otter numbers are on the increase in Northern Ireland luckily Ivy Lodge is fenced against this threat so can everyone please ensure that all gates are closed at all times regardless of whether you opened it or not.
Coming into the winter months and the wetter weather can everyone using a day shelter/umbrella please make sure that they set it up on the stones and not on the grass as walking over the grass all day leaves it mucky and untidy. All our pegs are big enough to accommodate any shelter behind them also if you are walking between pegs please stick to the stone paths they are there for a reason.
Can all anglers please remember to return our barrows back to the car park (with the exception of a disabled angler using peg 7) after leaving your tackle to your peg we only have a few and on busy days it is only fair that everyone gets the use of them. I know some days there is enough to go round but unfortunately you never know when it is going to get busy so as a rule please return them once you have dropped your tackle at your chosen swim. If you do not wish to have to walk up and down please bring your own barrow.
That’s all the rants over for this month lol hope to see you all before the cold weather sets in and all you solar powered anglers disappear for the winter lol.
