WINTER CARPIN
It’s hard to believe its winter again seems like only yesterday we were wishing for spring 2016. The fishery has produced some cracking fish the past few weeks with lots of double figure carp coming out to various tactics. As some of the bigger fish are now wising up to pellets and method feeders boilies seem to be starting to work better and are producing a better stamp of fish. Please only use good quality boilies (fresh or freezer baits preferred) if you wish to fish this way. Most of the big name brands are fine and usually priced around £10 per kg if you are buying boilies much cheaper (with the exception of bulk deals) than this then they are most likely rubbish and are bad for the fish and water quality the carp will ignore them and they will lie on the bottom and rot which affects the health of the lake, remember you get what you pay for and if it’s not right you will not be allowed to use it here. We now have the new Poloni frozen boilies from baittech in stock which are excellent quality for anyone who might be thinking of trying this style of fishing.
At this time of year the fish will not want a big feed so slack off on the amount of bait you use and avoid anything to oily or rich the keep it simple in the colder months and you will still catch plenty.
Another issue that needs addressed and a NEW RULE from next year is the use of a rod and pole at the same time you cannot fish safely in this way and fish are being damaged and poles dragged in as the angler is busy playing a fish on the rod or just not concentrating on the pole. You may still fish 2 rods providing that they are on a good sturdy bankstick or pod set up and have a baitrunner or similar reel. So to sum it up its 1 rod or 1 pole not both at the same time if you’re fishing the pole bring the rod in or vice versa.
Please remember also from the start of next year all rods and poles not fit for purpose will not be allowed to be used at the fishery no spinning rods, pike rods, poles with elastic under 16 or heavy carp rods only purposefully designed float, feeder, carp poles with at least a 16 elastic and light carp rods under 2.5tc will be allowed. There is also a lot of cheap rods on the market that are not what they say they are remember you get what you pay for and if it’s not right we will not allow it this has to be done in the interest of fish safety. If you are unsure please come and ask me and I will gladly help or advise.
Not be long now till the big man arrives (no not me lol) make sure you get your Santa lists done soon. The fishery is open right through the Christmas holidays apart from Christmas day (ye ha a day off lol) and we look forward to seeing you all over the holiday period.
Dates for the diary the fishery will be closed for a week in the new year we close on Sunday the 5th Feb 2017 and will reopen on Monday the 13th Feb 2017. This is to allow for the netting to take place on Tuesday the 7th and to give the fishery time to settle down again afterwards.
