A COLD START TO THE YEAR

Spring has started the same as the winter ended cold wet and miserable which has meant the fishing has been very up and down and very peggy.

Keeping it simple has been the best way to catch and the method feeder with 2mm pellets as feed and a pellet hookbait or small pop up bringing the best results.

One thing that still constantly needs to be addressed (and to be honest I’m getting tired of saying it) is fish care a lot of anglers are still not doing as much as they could be and a lot of people seem to be rushing fish in now to try and catch more and out do their friends we all need to remember that this is a pleasure fishery and the fish’s welfare comes first.

I have said this time and time again take your time one of the biggest problems I still see is people striking to hard you should not need to strike at all, when the tip goes round the fish is already hooked.  Once the fish is in the net relax (it’s not a match) the next thing to do is slacken off your line so there is no pressure on the hook which is still in the fishes mouth so if it jumps in the net or on the mat you do not tear and damage its mouth. Next carefully remove the hook, weigh and take a quick photo if you wish to then place the fish back in the water giving it time to recover in the net before releasing.

If you are unsure of anything or how to handle the fish correctly please ask me to show you that’s what I’m here for. These are simple common sense guidelines and I am going to have to crack down on this so please take heed I do not want to have to walk around the lake everyday giving off to people all the time, we are all out to enjoy ourselves and to try and catch a few fish so we all need to treat the fish correctly so they are there for us all to enjoy again and again.

Okay rant over lol summer is just around the corner and hopefully we will all be running about in t shirts soon complaining that it’s too warm (were never happy lol) and catching lots of fish. Please remember that for surface fishing we only allow our own floating carp pellets to be fed no dog food of any kind is allowed.
