Willow Pond Now Open

As most of you will be aware we have now opened Willow pond for all members to fish if they wish to.  It is well stocked with mixed species and ideal for the pole or a light float rod. Float fished corn down the margin will produce the bigger carp and tench with maggots tempting the silver fish at any depth. Please see our last update (march 2017) for the rules for this lake.

There is a new disabled car park available beside Willow pond for any registered disabled anglers who find it difficult to get to their peg please call us the night before you arrive if you wish to use this facility. As with the main lake peg 1 on Willow pond is designated for disabled anglers (anyone may fish it if not booked) please book this the night before you arrive if you wish to use it.

I would like to thank everyone who made it on the opening day it was a good days craic and I hope you all enjoyed it.

Well done to Faith Boal who has set the first record for most fish 70+ mixed species in a morning is some going even dad George could not keep up with her. Also Josh Smyth who had a few hours on peg 1 caught 20+ Roach and Rudd well done Josh.

We look forward to seeing more kids fishing Willow pond this summer.

The main lake is starting to produce well and lots of good catch reports are coming in the Tench are starting to wake up to with some good hauls being reported.

The new Bait-tech Triple-N boilie range will soon be on our shelves if its anywhere near as good as the Poloni range which has produced some cracking fish at Ivy Lodge over the winter it is sure to be popular.

Can all members please be aware that we are approaching spawning season this is a very stressful time for the fish so when the fish are spawning we ban fishing in the margins and on the surface until they have finished please respect this decision.

CARP CARE

As we are now approaching summer and hopefully the sun will appear at some stage please remember that fish live in water which is cold bringing them onto the bank in hot summer temperatures can put a lot of stress on the fish and cause damage to them.

A bucket of water is essential when fishing in summer (and all year round) to keep the fish wet and cool. The mats and slings get very hot when sitting in sunlight placing a fish on a dry hot mat will cause damage please soak these with fresh water from the lake before placing fish on them and keep them wet throughout the day. Buckets can be found in the net stores for this purpose if you don’t have one.

All fish should be kept out of the water for the minimum of time especially on a hot summers day. Fish live in water, and we could “not” survive under water for more than a few minutes so how could you expect a fish to survive out of the water for longer than this.

If any of you wish to test this theory I’ll gladly assist you (I can think of a few already) lol ha ha!

Be sure to have your unhooking mat ready and have water available to wet the fish.
